Our recent Twitter activity

Children from twitter feed

As you are probably aware, we have two Twitter accounts:
Ed Packard has been running the UK account since 2017;
the Euskadi edition was set up in 2020 by Gaizka Garamendi and is run by him.

Between them we link with a large international audience. They have been tremendous instruments in spreading the history of the Basque children of 1937. The twitters are complementary rather than identical; both are multilingual and therefore it could be of interest to follow both.

Report by Ed Packard:

We now have well over 1,000 followers so thank you if you are already following us, and if you would like to become a follower please head to twitter.com/basquechildren.

The twitter feed also 'retweets' interesting information and images about the Basque children from other sources, including archives and local heritage groups. It is pleasing to see some of the relatives of niños interacting with us on twitter!

We are currently running a series of 'on this day' tweets which refer to the opening dates of colonies across Britain in 1937. These fascinating and informative visual snapshots of each colony were originally prepared by Gaizka Garamendi who runs our Euskadi Twitter, where they were originally posted last year.

Report by Gaizka Garamendi:

The following data are from the Euskadi twitter feed which was started in April 2020.

Number of followers 220 (July 2021)

The predominant language used in tweets

Basque-53
Others 16 (unidentified-8, Catalan-5, German-1, Italian-1 and Welsh-1)

Family connection

Children from euskadi twitter feed

Ed Packard lleva la cuenta del Reino Unido desde 2017;
