Dear Readers

I hope that you are all enjoying the sun once again after apparently the worst March in the UK since 1963!

March was a busy month for our most recent team member - young historian Dr Ed Packard from the University of Suffolk, who organised and spoke at two events: The Shotley Peninsular Local History Group, and the Wickham Market event with talks, exhibitions and the unveiling of a plaque by Daniel Vulliamy. The event was very successful and enjoyable and was attended by over 100 visitors. There will be an account appearing before too long on our webpage. There is a report on part of the event by Barbara Coombs. Read it here

The next event on April 27-29th is a weekend in Totnes celebrating the lives and achievements of the niñas Carito and Marina Rodríguez - this promises to be a very interesting couple of days - see details below.

Also on Saturday 21st there is a talk by Mike Levy in Norwich - we were involved with Mike’s project "A Tale of Two Hostels" that took place last year in Cambridge. More details below.

Last Saturday morning on BBC Radio 4 there was an interview with John Simmons, author of Spanish Crossings. He talks about his family's link to a Basque child, and his motivation and research for his novel. Our association gets a generous mention. More details

We have recently received various articles for publication, which is excellent news. We plan to put new ones on the web every couple of weeks, rather than all at once. Our latest is by Anna Cordon - the niece of Bill Thornycroft. She tells of her family's involvement with the Worthing and Lancing colonies. Read it here

Finally, there is a request from a Ph.D. student at Granada University seeking information about those that returned. I hope that some of you will be able to help. Read more here

With best wishes to you all

Queridos lectores
